Austin Codrington of Canada became the first person to pick up 5 wickets on his debut game in a WC. He did so against Bangaldesh, taking 5/27 and helping his side win their first ever ODI.

Canada were bowled out for 36 against SL, the lowest ever score in ODIs.

Australia won the World Cup for the 3rd time. They are the only team to have won it more than twice.

Australia made a score of 359 against India in the final. This is the highest score ever made in a WC final.

Glenn McGrath picked up 7/15 against Namibia in a league game. This happens to be the best bowling figures in a WC game.

Sachin Tendulkar became the highest run-getter in a single edition of the WC. He ended with 673 runs in 11 games, surpassing his previous best of 523 in the 96 edition. He also scored 6 fifties in the WC, the most by any player in any edition.

Ricky Ponting hit the most number of sixes in a WC innings when he struck 8 massive ones against India in the final.

Chaminda Vaas became the third player to take a hat-trick in a WC game. He removed Sarkar, Ashraful and Ehsanul Haque to the first three balls of the game. It still remains the only time that this has happened in an ODI.

Sourav Ganguly struck the most number of sixes in a single edition of the WC. He blasted 15 in 11 games.
