Three in a row for the Aussies and they were once again undefeated in the competition

When Ricky Ponting led his side to yet another WC win against SL in the final, it meant that he is yet to be defeated in World Cups as a captain. He has led his side in 22 WC games.

When Australia won their final against Sri Lanka, it was their 29th win in a row in WC encounters. Their last defeat came against Pakistan at Leeds in 1999.

There were sixteen scores of over 300 in this edition, the most in any World Cup so far.

Glenn McGrath took 26 wickets in the 2007 WC, the highest by any bowler in an edition of the World Cup.

For the first time in the history of World Cups, a team scored over 400 in the alloted 50 overs. India amassed 413 against Bermuda.

Bangladesh and Ireland made it to the second stage of the World Cup for the first time in history. They did so at the expense of India and Pakistan respectively.

Herschelle Gibbs became the first batsman to hit 6 sixes in an over in ODIs. The unfortunate bowler was Dan Van Bunger of the Netherlands.

Matty Hayden scored the fastest ever ton in World Cups, he blasted a 66 ball hundred against SA at St. Kitts.

Lasith Malinga became the first ever bowler in the history of international cricket to pick up 4 wickets in 4 balls, he did so against SA.
